Doug was born in New Haven, Connecticut, on June 12, 1964. He signed as a free agent by New Jersey, August 6, 1986. He was then signed by Pittsburgh in September of 1993, and claimed by Detroit on January 18, 1995. In the 1995-96 season, Doug scored in 21 of the 62 regular season games. He played his 500th career game on January 8 vs. Winnipeg. In his career, Doug has scored over 100 goals and has over 140 assists. He was on Team USA in 1986, and 1989, and on the 1991 World Championship Team, and 1991 Canada Cup Team. He played his collegiate hockey at Boston College, making the Hockey East First All-Star Team in his final two years.
